FAQ

Everything You Need to Know About Our Landscaping Products

  • How do I determine how much bark I need?

To determine the amount of product you need for your flower beds or desired area, measure or step off the area and multiply the length by the width. Then, determine the required depth. Using this information, refer to the chart at the bottom of the page to calculate the number of yards or units needed. This method applies to rock and soil as well. We provide the most competitive prices for bark in the area. Contact one of our landscaping experts for your bark or mulch needs.

  • How thick should I put my barkdust?

A good rule of thumb would be 3″. That will help aid in weed control and water retention during the hot summer months. During the winter it will also help to insulate your plants.

  • What is the best barkdust to use around children and pets?

The bark of Hemlock is often referred to as 'sliverless', but it's important to note that no bark is entirely without slivers. Cedar products are a great option for use in play areas and dog runs.

  • How big is the truck you bring, and how much room do you need to dump a unit of bark?

Our 2-unit truck has a divider, allowing us to deliver two different products simultaneously. For delivery, the truck needs a minimum clearance of 10 feet in width and 11 feet in height. Please note that sometimes wires and gutters may impact the delivery. One unit of bark can cover an area of about 12 feet wide and 15 feet long.

  • I’m putting in a new yard and need to raise the level, what should I do?

Two effective methods to improve your soil quality are:

    1. If your soil is in good condition, you can enhance it by adding various products, such as mushroom compost, which is rich in nutrients and organic matter. Our bark compost is another excellent option that can be tilled to a depth of 6 inches for optimal results.

    2. If the soil is compacted due to the absence of organic matter or moisture, you should till the ground to break the hard pan. You can then use our soil mix to raise the grade to your desired level. Our soil mix can be directly planted into and is a great solution for improving soil quality.

  • Will barkdust harm my plants?

NO! That is a myth, fresh barkdust might use some nitrogen that is in the soil, but it will not use enough to kill your plants. If you are worried about fresh bark we have some beautiful dark barks that will make your yard look rich and your flowers vibrant.

  • Does your barkdust have ants?

No, all of our bark and composts are stored on blacktop and come directly from the mill to us. Ants are commonly hatched in the spring and already in the ground. When you spread barkdust in your flower beds it warms the ground, and the ants smell the aroma. They then hatch because of the heat and emerge from the ground.

  • What about other garden tools?

    SOME INFO ABOUT GARDENING SUPPLIES

A trowel is useful for doing work on and around small plants. They help you get rid of weeds and help clean up dirt and debris from your small delicate plants. They are also great for planting seeds. They aren’t necessary every day but are useful to have on hand for times when you do need one. They can come in a small variety of styles so making sure you know which kind you need to you is a helpful thing you should do before buying one, while a standard trowel works just fine you might have a need for another kind of end that the standard trowel does not have

    Landscape FAQ’s on Shovels

Shovels are important for digging and moving debris and materials. There are many different kinds of shovels with different ends, rounded, pointed, or flat edge. Make sure you are careful where you dig your holes in your garden, if you don’t have a raised garden that is mostly separate from the earth keep in mind that there might be pipes underneath, this isn’t common but does warrant some caution when you’re digging somewhere that isn’t obviously a place to make a garden in.

Hand pruners are necessary to cut and trim branches and harvest plants. They are also used to cut back dead parts of plants only leaving the good parts of that plants that you want to keep. When buying one you should make sure that they have curved ends, which ensures that the cut should end up looking cleaner.

Leaf Blowers are used to, as you guessed it, blow leaves. It is used to clean up your garden of dry dead leaves that rot if you leave them in your garden for too long.

If you have a large yard and/or plan on moving around bigger or a bunch of little plants consider getting a garden cart. They are primarily used to move large amounts of things like compost, gardening tools, dirt, and debris to and from your garden. Wheelbarrows can also get the job done.
